Weekly Update 12/14/2020

Celebrating athletic achievement that betters ourselves, our teammates and our community.

As the Holidays draw nearer on a very strange year and so many athletic events were canceled, the club remained active in community development, here's a Year End Report from Stephanie;

Goodness, what a year 2020 has been!  But should we write off 2020 as a total loss? Chalk it up as Officially the Worst Year Ever? Well — not so fast — we actually have a lot to to be thankful for and to that end, want to give a great big “THANK YOU” to our 417 community. First off, thanks to our SBCA sponsors, Springfield Brewing Company, Active Life Chiropractic (Springfield, Missouri), State Bank of Southwest Missouri, Leggitt Forensic Economics, Larson & Miller, and At Home Reality.We thought it might also be nice for everyone to enjoy some good news for a change, which (most importantly) is only possible because of our awesome 417 community and its support of SBCA!  Amid lock downs, masks, canceled events and painful social distancing, we are so proud of our SBCA members and the entire 417 community for still finding a way to accomplish the following community fundraisers/programs in the year that was nonetheless the now infamous, 2020:• Bike Shop Trivia Night raised $3,100 for the SBC's Community Bike Shop at the Fairbanks (while securing 40 raffle prize donations from our big-hearted local community in the process).• We raised a stellar $11,315 for the Fairbanks Community Center (Drew Lewis Foundation at The Fairbanks) through the SBC Community Bike Shop’s sales, while simultaneously fixing and returning nearly 200 donated bikes, back into our local cycling community. #fortheloveofbikesandcommunity• We helped quench the thirst of our community’s hardworking health care heroes with 424 free “Pints of Thanks” — which worked out to be $2,500 worth of FREE beer — during our Socially-Distanced Everesting “Pint of Thanks” weekend,  during the lock down.  The efforts of many local athletes combined with the generosity of the amazing folks who bought the “Pints of Thanks”, and Springfield Brewing Company then matched each “Pint Of Thanks”.   (Overall, 130 athletes participated, and together [while actually being apart], the group of cyclists and runners from all over the Ozarks and even further afield, climbed a combined total of 531,051 ft, which was 18.294 Everests, or 101 miles straight up!) #fortheloveofsport #wemakebeerforaftertoo• We raised $639 for Ozark Greenways, Inc. with our “On Your Left Keller” Pils charity tap at the Mothership/SBC.• Folks rode like ghosts at the Annual Moonlight Ride and raised $465 for the Community Bike Shop.• We raised $335 for Ozark Greenways as a result of our 6th Annual Frisco Highline July 4th Weekend Bolivar Out and Back.• Some folks sampled beers across Springfield’s amazing 10 local breweries (while still riding safely) during the 2020 “Not the Tour De Brew” social distanced bike tour/cruise, and in the process raised $840 for local charity, " Care to Learn”.• We had riders of all levels who came out and rode some or all of The Annual Paul Hardin Out and Back to Golden City, and in the process raised $585 for the Bike Shop.• And last but certainly not least, cyclists, runners and triathletes raised a whopping $3,048 at the Unofficial Queen City Century (most of which occurred in pouring rain) for the Drury University Triathlon Fundraiser (who had all of their kit stolen during the lock down).So, in case you haven’t been doing the math, we’re pretty sure that together this adds up to $22,362 raised during the pandemic year, for 100% local causes!  Yep - every dollar stayed in 417Land.  (And that’s not even counting the raffle prize donations, or the well over 250 bikes that the community donated to the Bike Shop over the year.)We are so lucky to live in a great community that supports all these club efforts.  And that’s what we want to celebrate and give thanks for at the end of this oh so tough year.  Thanks to everyone who donated, attended, participated, supported, and volunteered.  It takes a village and what a village 417Land has become.(We’d also, of course, like to thank our SBCA members – without whom, none of this would’ve been possible — and as we eagerly leave 2020 in our rear view, let’s all look forward to better things in 2021 and focus on the things we can continue to accomplish in the future.)Cheers, 417Land!  Thanks to you, our community.  And Cheers SBCA Athletes!  Thank you all, each and every one of you, for what you do.    #wemakebeerforafterthattoo #lovebeerloveeachother(We also wanted to thank our athletes, who have kept riding, running, swimming and training throughout the pandemic.  To our knowledge there has not been a single case of covid to come out of any our SBCA events, group rides, runs, or meetings/get-togethers - all of which have been outside.  Not a single case.  #fortheloveofsportandstayinghealthy)

Weekly Update 12/7/2020

Celebrating athletic achievement that betters ourselves, our teammates and our community.

Pactimo kits are in!  Winter gear store is open now and closes December 13- Order Here . The winter gear store is a great place to get podium or casual wear. It's also a great place to buy gifts for those who support us from the sidelines.

We elected to cancel the End of Season Holiday get together due to Covid concerns. It was scheduled to take place this Sunday from 4-7.  If several would still like to meet informally, you can do so on the patio upstairs at SBC.

The Fairbanks Bike Shop Christmas Clearance sale was a great success on several fronts. We cleared out a lot of space for next season and raised $1355 for the Drew Lewis Foundation. The shop turned around 20 plus bikes and folks took advantage of some of the gear and accessories as well.

SBC Mug Club has 30 mugs left, contact Neil if you're interested.
