Weekly Update 1/25/2021

Celebrating athletic achievement that betters ourselves, our teammates and our community.

As we navigate our way through the pandemic, it looks like some events may be starting to make a comeback. Some have made modifications and accommodations, but they are trying to get back to some kind normal. With that, the SBCA Virtual TT Series is back. If you're looking for some full gas training and/or competition in a relatively Covid safe environment check out this link for more details. If you are registered for Mid-South Gravel (previously LandRun 100), check out this bit of local good news- Mid South Missouri. Even better news; if you aren't registered in Mid South, you can still participate in this event. Stephanie has SBCA membership cards. Pickup is at the Mothership.

Holding these items over from previous weeks;

We are looking for a team member who is a yoga instructor. The intent is to create a yoga and beer class to be held at SBC.

Look for the Classic Beer Mile on the regular. It will be coming up every 3rd Saturday of the month. The next one will be February 20th. Tell your beer drinking/running friends. Also look for new and better prizes! Information below in "Upcoming".

Are you and a bunch of teammates headed to a big event? An Ultra, a big gravel race, triathlon or volunteering for a trail workday? Wouldn't some SBC beer afterwards be refreshing? Would you like to take along some SBC Brews to share? Contact Neil. He will hook you up.

Join SLACK . It really is the best way to keep in touch with teammates and to coordinate group activities.

SBC Bar tape is finally in and available again. If you ordered a set, you can pick it up at the front desk at SGB- $25 cash only.

If you would like commemorative brick to celebrate an athletic milestone, get in touch with Neil. These are really cool and stand as a lasting reminder of your epic achievement.

Weekly Update 1/18/2021

Celebrating athletic achievement that betters ourselves, our teammates and our community.

I hope everyone has been staying warm in the grip of winter. The days are getting long, if ever so slightly. Warmer days will be here before we know it. Training through the cold, wet and wind is difficult. Based on our social media feeds, you all appear to be rockin' it.

We are looking for a team member who is a yoga instructor. The intent is to create a yoga and beer class to be held at SBC. If you are a yoga instructor and are interested in the opportunity, contact Stephanie. Cassie Dimmick with Achieving Your Best is offering a free 30 minute nutrition session for SBCA members. If you ordered gear and selected "pickup at SBC", your gear is in and ready for pickup.

Chris Miller is selling his hypoxia tent. He used it to train for the Leadville 100. Here's an excellent opportunity to obtain a rare piece of gear relatively cheap. Flatlanders like us who have plans for an event at altitude should give it a serious look. Contact Chris here- email

A couple of community cycling related items; If you're the least bit interested in coaching youth mountain biking, check out this NICA Page, and this SYCC Page. Our local team is recruiting coaches. It's a very satisfying endeavor. If you care about cycling infrastructure haven't already, take a minute to fill out this Survey.

Weekly Update 1/11/2021

Celebrating athletic achievement that betters ourselves, our teammates and our community.

Year in review message from your Leadership Committee;

We hope this edition of the SBCA weekly newsletter finds you all surviving the pandemic, if not thriving.  We write this week, with our usual weekly update but also to give you all a brief update about the SBCA club.  The club has never been stronger.  Almost 400 members deep now on our weekly team mailer.  Our new director of operations – Stephanie Snow – who took over mid-pandemic,  is doing a fantastic job.  Our new director for SBCA social media, Dylan Pelletier – has grown our followings on FB (4513 followers) and Instagram (1325 followers).  The community bike shop, under Jason Stratton’s leadership, has also gone from strength to strength.   Thank you to all these leaders, to the entire SBCA leadership committee, and thank you - to each of you - for your participation in SBCA.  You may have seen the end of year post but it is worth repeating in part – even during a pandemic, in 2020, you all helped raise $22,362 for 100% local causes!  250 bikes were integrated back into the local cycling community. Without a single case of COVID having been linked to any of our 2020 events.   Thank you all – for all you do.  As for the mothership.  What do we need from you all?  We need you to come see us.  To drink draft beer with us.  To buy beer to go from us.  To stay a while and eat, inside (in what is probably Springfield’s most spacious and safe eating environment), or outside on either of the now-heated patios.  But let us not for one moment underestimate the importance of this ask.  To survive, local places need local people, more now than ever.  So here’s to an awesome 2021!  Good luck in all your athletic endeavors!  Hopefully see you soon out on the roads/trails!    #fortheloveofsport #wereallydomakebeerforaftertoo

Weekly Update 1/4/2021

Celebrating athletic achievement that betters ourselves, our teammates and our community.

To get your new year off on the right track SBCA Mileage Challenge is back. Details in the link, but in a nutshell pick your discipline and log as many miles in your discipline as you can and try to attain the goal distance. The distances are lofty but there's extra credit for racing miles and more extra credit for getting on the podium. So get out and show your colors.

The Winter Lecture series is back again. Lecture #1 is nutrition- a very popular topic. This one has been our best attended in the past. It's always full of great information from highly qualified nutrition experts. Details below in "Upcoming".
