Weekly Update 2/21/2021

Celebrating athletic achievement that betters ourselves, our teammates and our community.

I hope everyone survived the arctic freeze last week. May will be here before you know it and then it will be time to reopen the Fairbanks Bike Shop. This is a great way to give back to the community, and get to know some of your teammates away from the race/event environment. If you're interested in volunteering for Monday Mechanics Night, sign up HERE. If you want to sign up for the Wednesday Open to the Public Sale Night, sign up HERE

Here's a very nicely done race report from Gary Shaw's latest epic Ultra-run. This is a little insight into what makes and motivates an ultra-runner- Outlaw 100

Attention "Active" Springfield Brewing Co Athletes! ("Active" is loosely defined as folks who are training (and racing when possible) in SBCA gear, posting on social media with SBCA gear/tags/@/, etc., frequenting the mothership and/or buying SBC beer where reasonably possible, etc., etc.). It's kind of hard to explain - but you probably know if you are.)

SBCA wants to help put on another team trip to Colorado this year from July 19th-July 25th. The last one was in 2018, and the lucky folks who went had an absolute blast.

There is nothing like cycling/hiking/running in Colorado, and we thought this might be an excellent opportunity to introduce more people to this incredible experience.

SBCA is willing to pay fifty percent towards the lodging expenses (up to a maximum of $1,250) to make the trip more affordable for folks.

Lodging will likely be a multi-bedroom lodge/cabin/house in the Dillon Reservoir area (Silverthorne, Frisco, Breckenridge). There is a great paved trail network in that area, and it is also reasonably close to other riding/hiking/running options. Many different routes can be done every day, plus several incredible hikes. Doing this will allow spouses and/or family members to come along as part of a family vacation. Riding/running would typically start early in the morning, leaving afternoons and evenings free for other family activities (hiking, rafting, etc.).

Please reach out to Stephanie Snow (stephs090386@gmail.com) if you are interested in this event (or if you have questions that will help you figure out if you can come), so we can gauge how many folks might be interested in this opportunity. The last time we did this, the house housed ten people, or so, we think. Isn't that about right, Fred?

Stephanie Snow is the trip leader/organizer/main-point-person. Jonathan Traughber will be the cycling coordinator/leader. And Jackie Young will be the running coordinator/leader. But to be clear, the trip will be an "everyone pitches in" experience - these folks won't be catering to your every need but will take the lead in coordinating. Fred did a fantastic job last time (but already has a summer trip planned). But you can get a pretty good idea of how they planned the last SBCA in CO trip from the slack channel "SBC_Colorado_2018". There will soon be an SBCA in CO 2021 Slack channel if the trip is a go - where most of the trip planning/conversation can occur.

This trip/opportunity is possible due to our amazing sponsors: SBC, State Bank of Southwest Missouri, Larson Law, ActiveLife Chiropractic, Leggitt Forensic ECONOMICS, and At Home Realty. Please try and support these fine folks when/if you ever can.

Holding these items over from previous weeks;

Are you and a bunch of teammates headed to a big event? An Ultra, a big gravel race, triathlon or volunteering for a trail workday? Wouldn't some SBC beer afterwards be refreshing? Would you like to take along some SBC Brews to share? Contact Neil. He will hook you up.

Join SLACK . It really is the best way to keep in touch with teammates and to coordinate group activities.

Weekly Update 2/15/2021

Celebrating athletic achievement that betters ourselves, our teammates and our community.

As it stands right now, the winter lecture scheduled for tomorrow is still on, but pending. We really want to have this, and will if conditions allow. However, we don't want folks to be travelling unnecessarily if the conditions aren't favorable enough for this lecture to be beneficial. Watch social media and Slack for updates tomorrow.  The Balancing Act is all about balancing family and work responsibilities with your fitness goals. Jonathan Traughber and Jason Stratton are going to co-host this event. If you're a working parent and want some insight about how to attain your fitness goals and still remain a good parent/spouse/employee, show up next Tuesday and benefit from the experience of these two fellows.

Weekly Update- 2/8/2021

Celebrating athletic achievement that betters ourselves, our teammates and our community.

Whether you're new to the sport, or a seasoned cyclist, you'll learn some key ways to balance your life tomorrow night  (now next Tuesday due to weather ) at the second in our Winter Lecture Series.

Last night's Super Bowl was no doubt a disappointment for most local NFL fans. This week's forecast looks like crap too. Have heart though, good things are coming. The Virtual TT Series is underway with week 2 beginning today. Details below in "This Week".

If you're on Facebook, be aware of this- SCAM ALERT! Read the bulletin in the link.
