Weekly Update 4/26/2021

Celebrating athletic achievement that betters ourselves, our teammates and our community.

The runners were out in force this past weekend. A handful managed PRs and landed on the podium as well. Details below in "Results".

The Tour De Brew is back this year, details in "Upcoming". The team needs volunteers for the event. If you're interested in volunteering, contact Stephanie.  We are releasing 2021's Edition of the SBCA beer, Finishline.  A limited number of cases available so pre-order (link in event).  Tapping at 6pm, Saturday, June 5th - after the Tour De Brew.

There's a new Saturday Morning ride option for women. Beginning May 1st, Heather Cribs will be leading a bi-weekly ride from SBC. Routes TBD and will begin at around 30 miles and progress to around 50. This ride is designed to give women an outlet to feel safe and comfortable riding their bikes in a group on the road.

Running this for another week. SBC Bike Shop at the Fairbanks season is right around the corner.  Mechanics are meeting every Monday 6-8 to get ready for the season. When the shop opens, Mondays will continue as Mechanics night and Wednesdays will be open to the public. Sign up to volunteer HERE. This is a very rewarding way to get to know other teammates and give back to the community at the same time.

As racing returns to the scene, the amazing results follow. If you have race results you would like to see in the newsletter, the best way to make sure we get them is by email- John, or Stephanie

Continuing items of importance;

Look for the Classic Beer Mile on the regular. It will be coming up every 3rd Saturday of the month. The next one will be May 15th. Tell your beer drinking/running friends. Also look for new and better prizes! Information below in "Upcoming".

Are you and a bunch of teammates headed to a big event? An Ultra, a big gravel race, triathlon or volunteering for a trail workday? Wouldn't some SBC beer afterwards be refreshing? Would you like to take along some SBC Brews to share? Contact Neil. He will hook you up.

Join SLACK . It really is the best way to keep in touch with teammates and to coordinate group activities.

SBC Bar tape is finally in and available again. If you ordered a set, you can pick it up at the front desk at SGB- $25 cash only.

If you would like commemorative brick to celebrate an athletic milestone, get in touch with Neil. These are really cool and stand as a lasting reminder of your epic achievement.

Weekly Update 4/19/2021

Celebrating athletic achievement that betters ourselves, our teammates and our community.

Seems like a relatively quiet weekend from the runners and triathletes.  We did have a couple of our cyclists out flying our colors this weekend. Jett Fluty with an overall win and Brad Wright with a top ten finish. Results below.

The SBC Bike Shop at the Fairbanks opens in May.

A few racing/training opportunities are coming 'round the bend for our racing cyclists. I'm seeing rumors of a Crit training race series to be held back at Jamestown near Rogersville. Details when I get them. Also Toasty Waffles Road Training Race series should be back this summer. Whether you're new or experienced at road riding, these will be great ways to train in a racing environment. Trevor Croley forwarded information for a unique opportunity for triathletes with some MTB skill- 2021 Off-Road Triathlon National Championships, which is a qualifier for 2022 Worlds is open for registration and right around the corner. Racing on the world stage is a fantastic experience and this is an excellent way to qualify. Register HERE

Weekly Update 4/12/2021

Celebrating athletic achievement that betters ourselves, our teammates and our community.

If you were paying any attention to social media over the weekend, you got a little insight to extreme ultra-running as Gary Shaw completed a grueling 200 mile trail run at Potawatomi Trail Race. Facebook updates from Nicole Fleming (who ran 150 with Gary) told a story of not only perseverance, but also of teamwork and triumph. SBCA is blessed with several ultra-runners who are truly amazing in what they do and also how they support on another.

The virtual TT is complete for the year. Results are below.

A couple of folks stepped up as newsletter editors. Thanks for being willing to pitch in Neil and Stephanie.

Weekly Update 4/6/2021

Celebrating athletic achievement that betters ourselves, our teammates and our community.

A day late, but hopefully not a dollar short. Apologies for the tardiness of the newsletter, but I've been travelling.

Outdoors seems mighty agreeable recently. Some more organized rides are back, including the SBC Saturday 50. Ride a bunch, then recover at the Mothership. Details below in "This Week".

We're looking for a backup editor for the weekly newsletter. If you're interested in filling in every once in a while contact the editor, or Stephanie if you're interested. A little knowledge of Google Blogger is a plus, but not necessary (it's easy).
