Weekly Update 8/30/2021

Celebrating athletic achievement that betters ourselves, our teammates, and our community.

As we, as a club, approach our 10th Anniversary (2022), we are looking into the future for SBCA - and want/need your input.  Please take a second to complete this survey here.

Trailfest is coming up and registration is now open. This is always a great event for the trail runners and a terrific precursor to the Dogwood Canyon Trail races a month later. The event will be at 2 Rivers in Highlandville. Details and registration can be found HERE

SBC was well represented as triathlon made a return to the town of Willard with the Bonnie and Clyde Blitz. This race used to be a staple in a circuit of local triathlons. Let's hope that trend continues. Les Schaeffer made the AG Podium for the Triple Threat (MTB race Friday, HHH Century Saturday, and half marathon trail run Sunday) at Hotter than Hell in Wichita Falls, TX. Road Warrior Brad Wright came back from being hit by a car recently to lay down some hard miles at the Joe Martin Stage Race in Fayetteville, AR.

New socks are at SGB. There are 12 small pairs, 24 medium pairs,  25 large pairs, and 23 XL pairs. The price is $15 a pair.  They are in reception at Strong Garner Bauer, 415 E Chestnut Expressway, 65802 - office open from 8-5, Mon-Fri.  First come, first served. (p.s. you can also pay for them on Venmo, and we will mail you what you want - message if that is easier.)

The fate of Lone Pine Bike Park is still very much in limbo. Learn the history of this park and try not to be inspired by the kids who set its wheels in motion. There is a small group of nearby residents trying to get the park's progress halted. You can still leave comments and write to Springfield City Council in support of this endeavor.

The SBC Bikeshop at the Fairbanks continues its summer roll. The shop will be open for five more Wednesdays. Then we will close down for the season. It has been a very good year so far. Let's close it out strong. Thank you so much to those who volunteer. Volunteer efforts have put a lot of bikes back on the road and put a lot of riders on their first bike.

SBC Bricks are still available. Details below under "Continuing items of importance." Are you interested in seeing the SBCA logo and some team gear that we do not already have? Just shoot us a DM or email Stephanie (Stephs090386@gmail.com), and we can see what we can do.

Continuing items of importance:

SBCA Segment Challenge (riding and running) will be starting September 1st, and the segment will run for the length of the month. Each month will be the same time frame, and this challenge will run for a full year. Let us know what segments you would like to see in the challenge.

We want to hear your stories. How does racing shape your life? Your perspective on the race? Is there an experience that stands out? We’ll read every response, but nothing will be shared without your permission. Shot Stephanie an email stephs090386@gmail.com

We need volunteers to help with a youth bike maintenance class at the Fairbanks Bike Shop. This is a great way to give back to the community and youth in the area. Please reach out to Stephanie Snow ( Stephs090386@gmail.com ) or Jason Stratton ( jason@blackriverimaging.com ) if you can help.

Are you and a bunch of teammates headed to a big event? An Ultra, a big gravel race, triathlon, or volunteering for a trail workday? Wouldn't some SBC beer afterward be refreshing? Would you like to take along some SBC Brews to share? Contact Neil. He will hook you up.

The cycling community showed up in force in support of the Lone Pine Bike Park. There were several organized rides to Kingsway United Methodist for the open house. SBC Athletics was part of that significant number. The cycling community of Springfield should be very proud of that showing. Learn the history of this park and try not to be inspired by the kids who set its wheels in motion. There is a small group of nearby residents trying to get the park's progress halted. Weekly Update 8/16/21

Celebrating athletic achievement that betters ourselves, our teammates, and our community.

Many of you know that the new trail development at Lone Pine Park has been put on hold. On August 19th from 5:00-7:00 pm, there will be a public open house opportunity to comment on the proposed improvements for Lone Pine Park at the outdoor pavilion at Kingsway United Methodist Church at 2401 S. Lone Pine Ave. Let's save Lone Pine Park trails for the sake of More Trails Close to Home!

Judge Sifferman won his 14th state TT championship over the weekend. Charles Givens took 3rd place at the same state TT race.

Gary Shaw ran the South Dakota Horse 100 and took 10th with an overall time of 22:48:33. He is on a mission to run 100 in all fifty states. The current tally is 10 states, and the states are quickly dwindling down.

Jonathan Traugher, AKA Solo_Gravelest, will be competing in the Long Voyage race in Lincoln, Nebraska August 20th.  The Long Voyage is a 300-mile, fully self-supported gravel race that will run in conjunction with the existing Gravel Worlds events. You'll be able to track him here

The Hoffmann’s will be heading to the PNW next week for a backpacking trip in WA and, unfortunately, won’t be able to take any SBC beer with them. However, to spread the good news of the delicious carbs produced by SBC, they are hiking a sticker up the famous Mailbox Peak of the Snoqualmie Region. Decisions are best made among friends, so which sticker should go on the mailbox?

Weekly Update 8/9/21

Celebrating athletic achievement that betters ourselves, our teammates, and our community.

The SBCA runners were out in full force over the weekend at the 5th Annual Eliminator. Each runner had 45 minutes to run 3 miles, or they were eliminated. We saw many runners that set new personal records even with the blistering heat they had to endure.

Our very own Judge Sifferman rocked it over the weekend at the USA Cycling National TT in Albuquerque, NM. He participated in the individual time trial and took 12th place with an average of 26 mph.

The last Railcar Root Beer Junior Ride before school starts this Saturday, August 14th, so come out for one last ride before life gets a lot busier. This is a leisurely bike ride geared towards kids, but parents, family, and friends are also welcome to attend! We'll meet at the Willard Trailhead on the Frisco Highline Trail at 9:00 am, and we'll enjoy some Railcar root beer after.

SBCA Segment Challenge (riding and running) will be starting September 1st, and the segment will run for the length of the month. Each month will be the same time frame, and this challenge will run for a full year. Let us know what segments you would like to see in the challenge.

You have until Wednesday, August 11th, to shop at the team store. The estimated ship date is September 23rd.  Link to teams store here

Weekly Update 8/02/21

Celebrating athletic achievement that betters ourselves, our teammates, and our community.

Another challenging and exciting triathlon race in the books for SBCA at the Republic Tiger Tri. This multisport event included three different disciplines swimming, cycling, and running, and it was great to see all the SBCA athletes crushing it.

We want to hear your stories. How does racing shape your life? Your perspective on the race? Is there an experience that stands out? We’ll read every response, but nothing will be shared without your permission. Shot Stephanie an email stephs090386@gmail.com

The last poker run of the season was Thursday, and it did not disappoint.  We want to shout to our running chair member Rachel who did an amazing job running this event.

The AWC #2 2021 will be held on September 10th. Usual drill. Start and finish at SBC. 100 miles. 50-60'ish as the sunsets. 40 in the moonlight. Moving average is usually 16-17 mph'ish. Faster in the daylight, then slows up nicely at night.
