Weekly Update 5/17/2021

Celebrating athletic achievement that betters ourselves, our teammates, and our community.

The weekends events had a pretty healthy showing of SBC Athletes in spite of some pretty awful conditions. Flower Moon 50 Ultra and Pomme De Tour Spring 66 Gravel Race were well attended by the black and red.

Still tickets available for Tour De Brew. Visit all of Springfield's craft breweries and sample their wares. More vent details in the link. After the event, there will be the official release party for Finish Line Lager. Finish Line Lager is the brew conceived and designed with the SBC Athletics group. This promises to be a great time with SWAG, prizes, and specials to kick off the beginning of your summer.

Continuing items of importance;

Pirate Perry Events is now offering SBCA 10% off of their events. There are a few exceptions on a few events, those races that they don't direct or own but are posted on their website. The code is "SBCA 10off".  Link to Events

Look for the Classic Beer Mile on the regular. It will be coming up every 3rd Saturday of the month. The next one will be on June 19th. Tell your beer-drinking/running friends. Also, look for new and better prizes! The information below in "Upcoming."

Are you and a bunch of teammates headed to a big event? An Ultra, a big gravel race, triathlon, or volunteering for a trail workday? Wouldn't some SBC beer afterward be refreshing? Would you like to take along some SBC Brews to share? Contact Neil. He will hook you up.

Join SLACK . It really is the best way to keep in touch with teammates and to coordinate group activities.

SBC Bar tape is finally in and available again. If you ordered a set, you can pick it up at the front desk at SGB- $25 cash only.

Weekly Update 5/2/2021

Celebrating athletic achievement that betters ourselves, our teammates, and our community.

It's beginning to seem a little more like normal. This weekend brought us the FHT Iron Horse Gravel Race. Last look it was sold out. SBCA had several athletes toe the line. The organizers did a good job of running a rather large event given the circumstances.

SBC Bike Shop at the Fairbanks season starts THIS WEEK. Please pick a night and volunteer.  Mechanics are meeting every Monday from 6-8 to get ready for the season. We open to the public this Wednesday. Sign up to volunteer HERE. This is a very rewarding way to get to know other teammates and give back to the community at the same time.

Keaton Garret's Heartland Racing is growing and he's looking for help. Check here if you're interested.

Pirate Perry Events is offering SBCA members a 20% discount at Trail Fest for MS. The 20% promo code is "SBCA". Trail Fest for MS is an off-road duathlon series in NWA (trail run>MTB>trail run). TrailFest Link: Here

Running this another week; There's a new Saturday Morning ride option specifically for women. Beginning May 1st, Heather Cribs will be leading a bi-weekly ride from SBC. Routes TBD and will begin at around 30 miles and progress to around 50. This ride is designed to give women an outlet to feel safe and comfortable riding their bikes in a group on the road.

As racing returns to the scene, amazing results follow. If you have race results you would like to see in the newsletter, the best way to make sure we get them is by email- John, or Stephanie

Continuing items of importance;

Look for the Classic Beer Mile on the regular. It will be coming up every 3rd Saturday of the month. The next one will be May 15th. Tell your beer-drinking/running friends. Also, look for new and better prizes! The information below in "Upcoming".

Weekly Update 4/19/2021

Celebrating athletic achievement that betters ourselves, our teammates and our community.

Seems like a relatively quiet weekend from the runners and triathletes.  We did have a couple of our cyclists out flying our colors this weekend. Jett Fluty with an overall win and Brad Wright with a top ten finish. Results below.

The SBC Bike Shop at the Fairbanks opens in May. Mechanics are meeting every Monday 6-8 to get ready for the season. When the shop opens, Mondays will continue as Mechanics night and Wednesdays will be open to the public. Sign up to volunteer HERE. This is a very rewarding way to get to know other teammates and give back to the community at the same time.

A few racing/training opportunities are coming 'round the bend for our racing cyclists. I'm seeing rumors of a Crit training race series to be held back at Jamestown near Rogersville. Details when I get them. Also Toasty Waffles Road Training Race series should be back this summer. Whether you're new or experienced at road riding, these will be great ways to train in a racing environment. Trevor Croley forwarded information for a unique opportunity for triathletes with some MTB skill- 2021 Off-Road Triathlon National Championships, which is a qualifier for 2022 Worlds is open for registration and right around the corner. Racing on the world stage is a fantastic experience and this is an excellent way to qualify. Register HERE

Weekly Update 4/12/2021

Celebrating athletic achievement that betters ourselves, our teammates and our community.

If you were paying any attention to social media over the weekend, you got a little insight to extreme ultra-running as Gary Shaw completed a grueling 200 mile trail run at Potawatomi Trail Race. Facebook updates from Nicole Fleming (who ran 150 with Gary) told a story of not only perseverance, but also of teamwork and triumph. SBCA is blessed with several ultra-runners who are truly amazing in what they do and also how they support on another.

The virtual TT is complete for the year. Results are below.

A couple of folks stepped up as newsletter editors. Thanks for being willing to pitch in Neil and Stephanie.

Celebrating athletic achievement that betters ourselves, our teammates and our community.

A day late, but hopefully not a dollar short. Apologies for the tardiness of the newsletter, but I've been travelling.

Outdoors seems mighty agreeable recently. Some more organized rides are back, including the SBC Saturday 50. Ride a bunch, then recover at the Mothership. Details below in "This Week".

We're looking for a backup editor for the weekly newsletter. If you're interested in filling in every once in a while contact the editor, or Stephanie if you're interested. A little knowledge of Google Blogger is a plus, but not necessary (it's easy).
