Weekly Update 02/26/20219
Celebrating athletic achievements that better ourselves, our teammates, and our community.
Folks,
There was a lot going on this past week, and over the weekend. Races, fundraisers, and group activities, but the biggest occurrence is a sad one to report. Teammate and cyclist Paul Hardin lost his life Saturday at a gravel event in Arkansas. No one saw the accident but it appears Paul missed a downhill corner and hit a tree. The coroner does not believe there was any suffering. Paul was all you could ask for in a teammate and a friend. He was selfless, encouraging, and enthusiastic. He was always present and helpful, on rides, at the Fairbanks bike shop and in life. Those who knew him will draw from his well for years to come. He leaves a huge gap in the SBC peleton. We'll be doing a group ride and fun run for Paul on March 9th- Memorial Ride/Run FB Event page.
In light of recent events and since Paul was the hub for Cycling Camp this coming weekend, it has been decided to cancel that event.
On a more upbeat note; Kimi Reed finished fifth overall female at the Austin Half Marathon. Remarkable accomplishment in a field of 16,000 runners between half and full marathons. Sarah Waterman banged out a Boston qualifying marathon in Fort Worth TX. Rosie Laughlin won the Masters Female and Pam Sailors got 2nd in her division at the Cabin Fever Reliever. The Trivia Night fundraiser was well attended with 16 tables of 8. The event raised over $3000. Photos from the event are here; Trivia Night .
