Weekly Update 12/14/2020

Celebrating athletic achievement that betters ourselves, our teammates and our community.

As the Holidays draw nearer on a very strange year and so many athletic events were canceled, the club remained active in community development, here's a Year End Report from Stephanie;

Goodness, what a year 2020 has been!  But should we write off 2020 as a total loss? Chalk it up as Officially the Worst Year Ever? Well — not so fast — we actually have a lot to to be thankful for and to that end, want to give a great big “THANK YOU” to our 417 community. First off, thanks to our SBCA sponsors, Springfield Brewing Company, Active Life Chiropractic (Springfield, Missouri), State Bank of Southwest Missouri, Leggitt Forensic Economics, Larson & Miller, and At Home Reality. We thought it might also be nice for everyone to enjoy some good news for a change, which (most importantly) is only possible because of our awesome 417 community and its support of SBCA!  Amid lock downs, masks, canceled events and painful social distancing, we are so proud of our SBCA members and the entire 417 community for still finding a way to accomplish the following community fundraisers/programs in the year that was nonetheless the now infamous, 2020:• Bike Shop Trivia Night raised $3,100 for the SBC's Community Bike Shop at the Fairbanks (while securing 40 raffle prize donations from our big-hearted local community in the process).• We raised a stellar $11,315 for the Fairbanks Community Center (Drew Lewis Foundation at The Fairbanks) through the SBC Community Bike Shop’s sales, while simultaneously fixing and returning nearly 200 donated bikes, back into our local cycling community. #fortheloveofbikesandcommunity• We helped quench the thirst of our community’s hardworking health care heroes with 424 free “Pints of Thanks” — which worked out to be $2,500 worth of FREE beer — during our Socially-Distanced Everesting “Pint of Thanks” weekend,  during the lock down.  The efforts of many local athletes combined with the generosity of the amazing folks who bought the “Pints of Thanks”, and Springfield Brewing Company then matched each “Pint Of Thanks”.   (Overall, 130 athletes participated, and together [while actually being apart], the group of cyclists and runners from all over the Ozarks and even further afield, climbed a combined total of 531,051 ft, which was 18.294 Everests, or 101 miles straight up!) #fortheloveofsport #wemakebeerforaftertoo• We raised $639 for Ozark Greenways, Inc. with our “On Your Left Keller” Pils charity tap at the Mothership/SBC.• Folks rode like ghosts at the Annual Moonlight Ride and raised $465 for the Community Bike Shop.• We raised $335 for Ozark Greenways as a result of our 6th Annual Frisco Highline July 4th Weekend Bolivar Out and Back.• Some folks sampled beers across Springfield’s amazing 10 local breweries (while still riding safely) during the 2020 “Not the Tour De Brew” social distanced bike tour/cruise, and in the process raised $840 for local charity, " Care to Learn”.• We had riders of all levels who came out and rode some or all of The Annual Paul Hardin Out and Back to Golden City, and in the process raised $585 for the Bike Shop.• And last but certainly not least, cyclists, runners and triathletes raised a whopping $3,048 at the Unofficial Queen City Century (most of which occurred in pouring rain) for the Drury University Triathlon Fundraiser (who had all of their kit stolen during the lock down). So, in case you haven’t been doing the math, we’re pretty sure that together this adds up to $22,362 raised during the pandemic year, for 100% local causes!  Yep - every dollar stayed in 417Land.  (And that’s not even counting the raffle prize donations, or the well over 250 bikes that the community donated to the Bike Shop over the year.)We are so lucky to live in a great community that supports all these club efforts.  And that’s what we want to celebrate and give thanks for at the end of this oh so tough year.  Thanks to everyone who donated, attended, participated, supported, and volunteered.  It takes a village and what a village 417Land has become.(We’d also, of course, like to thank our SBCA members – without whom, none of this would’ve been possible — and as we eagerly leave 2020 in our rear view, let’s all look forward to better things in 2021 and focus on the things we can continue to accomplish in the future.)Cheers, 417Land!  Thanks to you, our community.  And Cheers SBCA Athletes!  Thank you all, each and every one of you, for what you do.    #wemakebeerforafterthattoo #lovebeerloveeachother(We also wanted to thank our athletes, who have kept riding, running, swimming and training throughout the pandemic.  To our knowledge there has not been a single case of covid to come out of any our SBCA events, group rides, runs, or meetings/get-togethers - all of which have been outside.  Not a single case.  #fortheloveofsportandstayinghealthy)

Weekly Update 12/7/2020

Celebrating athletic achievement that betters ourselves, our teammates and our community.

Pactimo kits are in!  Winter gear store is open now and closes December 13- Order Here . The winter gear store is a great place to get podium or casual wear. It's also a great place to buy gifts for those who support us from the sidelines.

We elected to cancel the End of Season Holiday get together due to Covid concerns. It was scheduled to take place this Sunday from 4-7.  If several would still like to meet informally, you can do so on the patio upstairs at SBC.

The Fairbanks Bike Shop Christmas Clearance sale was a great success on several fronts. We cleared out a lot of space for next season and raised $1355 for the Drew Lewis Foundation. The shop turned around 20 plus bikes and folks took advantage of some of the gear and accessories as well.

SBC Mug Club has 30 mugs left, contact Neil if you're interested.

Weekly Update; 11/23/2020

Celebrating athletic achievement that better ourselves, our teammates and our community.

The Leadership Committee met last Tuesday to discuss how to proceed in the coming year. There is a lot to digest here, including Meeting Minutes and new Group Ride Guidelines. Details are directly below. Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Minutes;

    I. Call to order

Stephanie Snow called to order the regular meeting of the SBCA Board at 6:00 p.m. on November 17, 2020 at Springfield Brewing Company.

II. Roll call

Heather Cribbs conducted a roll call. The following persons were present: Stephanie  Snow, Jason Stratton, Neil Chanter, Bryan Barr, Heather Cribbs, Rachel Baker, Josh  Mattix, Denise Temofeew, Gary Shaw, Evan Fusco, Wayne Stokes, and Gary  Momphard.

III. Approval of minutes from last meeting

Minutes approved.

IV. Open issues

a. New Board Members: Amber Mulligan (Inclusivity Chair), Gary Momphard  (Co-Event Chair with Heather Cribbs and Denise Temofeew), Gary Shaw (Beer Mile  Chair), Denise Temofeew (Club Collaborator), Jonathan Traughber (Recruitment  Chair)

b. Open position: Weekly Videographer

V. New Business

a. Results reporting- Each team member is responsible to report their results to  their groups leader or to John Long/Stephanie Snow.

b. When sharing events, results, training on social media all team members should  be using our SBCA hastags: #sbc_athletics #fortheloveofsport #wemakebeerforafter  #wemakerootbeerforaftertoo

c. Running events: Rachel Baker suggests a last man standing event at Two  Rivers or Sac. Also, would like to do an overnight ultra at Two Rivers.

d. Triathlon: Josh Mattix restated that this year would be great time to start the  mentorship program.

e. Cycling: Brian Barr things are in the works to get some local races started in  the Springfield area. We will continue to do more designated ride leaders for SBCA

Events to ensure everyone feels welcome. SBCA all women events need to come from  and be led by the women of SBCA.

f. Gary Shaw Beer Mile monthly series. He is going to work towards making it a  legal beer mile. This will be easier now that SBC is canning some of its beer.

g. Bike Shop- Jason Stratton we have workshop nights on the 11/23/2020 and 11/30/2020. Winter clearance sale is 12/5/2020 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. We still need a  few volunteers that day to help move the inventory out.

h. Evan Fusco our non-SBCA member chair- Shared that the sub 4-hour 100 mile  image for cycling still lingers, and it is intimidating for outsiders to join our weekly  rides for fear of being dropped. It would be helpful to project more on social media  what we are about and that we are open to all. This will be something for Amber to  work on. Also, being clear about the purpose of each ride and if there will be ride leaders for different paces.

i. Neil our founder and voice of the Mothership- This has been a tough year for  restaurants in the area, and the mothership has struggled too. SBCA can support the  mothership by being eating there, and obviously drinking beer there. Having more  rides/runs or events starting and ending at SBC would be a great help too. One of  SBC’s favorite things is having the team there enjoying beers and hanging out.

j. Pactimo kits will ship early December. They waived the minimums since we  made such a large overall order!!

VI. Adjournment

Stephanie Snow adjourned the meeting at 6:38 p.m.

Minutes submitted by: Heather A. Cribbs

Minutes approved by: Stephanie Snow

Group Ride Guidelines;

    SBCA Cycling 2021

All SBCA rides advertised on FB and other platforms are open to all. We are implementing
some new methods to help you decide if participation is right for you. All riders should feel
comfortable participating in any SBCA ride or event and expect to be treated respectfully
regardless of skill level or fitness. In return, all participants should arrive early/on time,
prepared to ride, with all supplies for self-support including but not limited to hydration,
nutrition, repair supplies, and a route in case they should have to quit or fall off of the group.
All rides should be given a designation. When in doubt, do not hesitate to ask.

No drop = an SBCA member will make sure that no rider is left behind until complete. These
rides are for all riders and we will make sure all who start are accompanied to the finish.
SBCA never provides SAG – so you always responsible for having a Plan B. The ride leader will
be off the back at all times and those faster than the ride leader will be on their own.
Pace groups = SBCA member(s) will be designated to lead various pace groups that will adhere
to the prescribed pace. Participating riders may ride faster, and some may fall off the back, but
the ride leader will maintain the prescribed pace. This is for the slightly more experienced rider
who is confident that they can hold the prescribed pace for the prescribed distance. Ride
leaders will hold the pace and not ride ahead or stay behind for others. This is a great
introduction to group riding and being self-supported in an environment where you do not
have to do so alone. Ride leaders will encourage safe group riding practices and pace line
techniques to help enhance the experience for all.

Training rides = SBCA members and non-members will meet up and ride at a prescribed time.
Pace will be relative to the individuals who show up and no expectation of accommodating
faster or slower riders should be given. These are most often rides that people use for tempo
training and can be fast paced. Do not be discouraged from participating. Come out, hang on
as long as you can, and keep coming back. Also, feel free to meet others so that you can form a
more aligned pace to your own and ride the same route. Sometimes there are beers
afterwards, and it is a great way to get to know other riders.
Open/Social rides = Usually open to all, but not all are sociable. Some of these rides are long
slow rides for base training but they really could be any variety of pace and distance, often in
support of someone or a group training for an event. Join for some or all of it at your own risk.
Be prepared to be self-supporting and know your bailout plan should you need one.

Team Milestones Efforts = Sub4 100, 1200k, TransMo TTT, etc. These rides are only for those
committed and who have trained together for the effort. Open to all, but these are efforts that
you should be reasonably confident in your abilities because there is usually a fair bit of cost
and logistics for the effort. You will be amazed what you can do if you push yourself, so if you
are interested in one of these, ask about it. You will be surprised by how much misery loves
    company.

This is the last week for the Kit Store. Pactimo announced a price increase that will take effect in November. Now's the time gang! ;

The 2020/2021 Brand New
Pactimo
Kit Store is open until October 31 (no exceptions). https://teamstore.pactimo.com/.../springfield.../show . Gear will be shipped Dec 7.
Thanks to everyone who helped put this awesome line-up together. Our new manufacturer has done everything they can to make the kits as cost effective as possible for everyone – there is zero mark up on any item from SBCA – these kits are absolutely 100% priced as low as we could get them to you all.
Please note – the difference between the “Summit” and the “Ascent” lines in the bibs – the “Ascent” bibs are the super fancy line, which is why they are considerably more. The Summit jerseys are racing/aero cut.
There is also a "Club cut" version of the team kit that offers big and tall size options – the men’s and women’s “Century XL” jersey line.
Be sure you are ordering the one you want 🙂
Please, please, please refer to the size charts and fit videos before purchasing as Pactimo sizing can be very different than other vendors. If you are in any doubt after reviewing the charts please call Pactimo between 8:30-5 Mountain Time and someone will be happy to help you figure out your sizing (800-801-9869).
