Celebrating athletic achievement that better ourselves, our teammates and our community.
The Leadership Committee met last Tuesday to discuss how to proceed in the coming year. There is a lot to digest here, including Meeting Minutes and new Group Ride Guidelines. Details are directly below. Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
Minutes;
I. Call to order
Stephanie Snow called to order the regular meeting of the SBCA Board at 6:00 p.m. on November 17, 2020 at Springfield Brewing Company.
II. Roll call
Heather Cribbs conducted a roll call. The following persons were present: Stephanie Snow, Jason Stratton, Neil Chanter, Bryan Barr, Heather Cribbs, Rachel Baker, Josh Mattix, Denise Temofeew, Gary Shaw, Evan Fusco, Wayne Stokes, and Gary Momphard.
III. Approval of minutes from last meeting
Minutes approved.
IV. Open issues
a. New Board Members: Amber Mulligan (Inclusivity Chair), Gary Momphard (Co-Event Chair with Heather Cribbs and Denise Temofeew), Gary Shaw (Beer Mile Chair), Denise Temofeew (Club Collaborator), Jonathan Traughber (Recruitment Chair)
b. Open position: Weekly Videographer
V. New Business
a. Results reporting- Each team member is responsible to report their results to their groups leader or to John Long/Stephanie Snow.
b. When sharing events, results, training on social media all team members should be using our SBCA hastags: #sbc_athletics #fortheloveofsport #wemakebeerforafter #wemakerootbeerforaftertoo
c. Running events: Rachel Baker suggests a last man standing event at Two Rivers or Sac. Also, would like to do an overnight ultra at Two Rivers.
d. Triathlon: Josh Mattix restated that this year would be great time to start the mentorship program.
e. Cycling: Brian Barr things are in the works to get some local races started in the Springfield area. We will continue to do more designated ride leaders for SBCA
Events to ensure everyone feels welcome. SBCA all women events need to come from and be led by the women of SBCA.
f. Gary Shaw Beer Mile monthly series. He is going to work towards making it a legal beer mile. This will be easier now that SBC is canning some of its beer.
g. Bike Shop- Jason Stratton we have workshop nights on the 11/23/2020 and 11/30/2020. Winter clearance sale is 12/5/2020 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. We still need a few volunteers that day to help move the inventory out.
h. Evan Fusco our non-SBCA member chair- Shared that the sub 4-hour 100 mile image for cycling still lingers, and it is intimidating for outsiders to join our weekly rides for fear of being dropped. It would be helpful to project more on social media what we are about and that we are open to all. This will be something for Amber to work on. Also, being clear about the purpose of each ride and if there will be ride leaders for different paces.
i. Neil our founder and voice of the Mothership- This has been a tough year for restaurants in the area, and the mothership has struggled too. SBCA can support the mothership by being eating there, and obviously drinking beer there. Having more rides/runs or events starting and ending at SBC would be a great help too. One of SBC’s favorite things is having the team there enjoying beers and hanging out.
j. Pactimo kits will ship early December. They waived the minimums since we made such a large overall order!!
VI. Adjournment
Stephanie Snow adjourned the meeting at 6:38 p.m.

Group Ride Guidelines;
SBCA Cycling 2021
All SBCA rides advertised on FB and other platforms are open to all. We are implementing
some new methods to help you decide if participation is right for you. All riders should feel
comfortable participating in any SBCA ride or event and expect to be treated respectfully
regardless of skill level or fitness. In return, all participants should arrive early/on time,
prepared to ride, with all supplies for self-support including but not limited to hydration,
nutrition, repair supplies, and a route in case they should have to quit or fall off of the group.
All rides should be given a designation. When in doubt, do not hesitate to ask.
No drop = an SBCA member will make sure that no rider is left behind until complete. These
rides are for all riders and we will make sure all who start are accompanied to the finish.
SBCA never provides SAG – so you always responsible for having a Plan B. The ride leader will
be off the back at all times and those faster than the ride leader will be on their own.
Pace groups = SBCA member(s) will be designated to lead various pace groups that will adhere
to the prescribed pace. Participating riders may ride faster, and some may fall off the back, but
the ride leader will maintain the prescribed pace. This is for the slightly more experienced rider
who is confident that they can hold the prescribed pace for the prescribed distance. Ride
leaders will hold the pace and not ride ahead or stay behind for others. This is a great
introduction to group riding and being self-supported in an environment where you do not
have to do so alone. Ride leaders will encourage safe group riding practices and pace line
techniques to help enhance the experience for all.
Training rides = SBCA members and non-members will meet up and ride at a prescribed time.
Pace will be relative to the individuals who show up and no expectation of accommodating
faster or slower riders should be given. These are most often rides that people use for tempo
training and can be fast paced. Do not be discouraged from participating. Come out, hang on
as long as you can, and keep coming back. Also, feel free to meet others so that you can form a
more aligned pace to your own and ride the same route. Sometimes there are beers
afterwards, and it is a great way to get to know other riders.
Open/Social rides = Usually open to all, but not all are sociable. Some of these rides are long
slow rides for base training but they really could be any variety of pace and distance, often in
support of someone or a group training for an event. Join for some or all of it at your own risk.
Be prepared to be self-supporting and know your bailout plan should you need one.
Team Milestones Efforts = Sub4 100, 1200k, TransMo TTT, etc. These rides are only for those
committed and who have trained together for the effort. Open to all, but these are efforts that
you should be reasonably confident in your abilities because there is usually a fair bit of cost
and logistics for the effort. You will be amazed what you can do if you push yourself, so if you
are interested in one of these, ask about it. You will be surprised by how much misery loves
company.
Join SLACK . It really is the best way to keep in touch with teammates and to coordinate group activities.
SBC Bar tape is finally in and available again. If you ordered some, you can pick it up at the front desk at SGB- $25 cash only.
If you would like commemorative brick to celebrate an athletic milestone, get in touch with Neil. These are really cool and stand as a lasting reminder of your epic achievement.
Curious about upcoming events- be sure to regularly check the SBC Calendar
