Weekly Update 12/13/2021

Over the weekend, Gary Shaw was at it again, hitting his fourteenth state, Iowa, and running100 miles at The Hitchcock Experience.

SBC Athletics Annual Meeting will be this Tuesday at 6 pm. We will be appointing (hopefully re-appoint where we can) able and willing volunteers to the leadership roles for 2022. Please come and join the discussion.

4th Annual Paul-Hardin-Memorial Bike Shop Fundraiser Out and Back. With the ongoing permission of the Hardin family, the now annual Paul Hardin Memorial Out and Back will again be a fundraiser for the SBC's Community Bike Shop at the Fairbanks. (All funds raised by shop sales go directly to the Fairbanks - this fundraiser helps the shop keep stocked up with tubes, chain oil, rags, parts, etc.)
The beauty of this out-and-back format is that you can ride for as long or as short as you want by simply turning around and heading back to the Mothership when you are ready to. Or, if you want, ride the entire 200k out to Cooky's Pie Shop in Golden City.

Pace shouldn't be too horrific - probably 16-18 mph average moving speed for the 200k group, easy up the hills, and really just spinning some long miles into the legs to help those in their build-up for the upcoming MidSouth gravel/mud festival.

$25 donations respectfully – any amount more also gratefully received. #fortheloveofsport Rain or shine. But not lightning.

Continuing items of importance:

The Sbc merino wool jerseys are fantastic, and the last order's quantity got us to $110 each, I think. Any interest in a new order, let us know? The jerseys are long sleeves and constructed of very high quality (20.1 microns and 440gm weight) 100% Australian merino wool.  They include an entire zip front and hidden rear zippered pocket. The jerseys are unisex but have good stretch, so they fit both women and men well.  With cold washing and lay-flat drying, they are expected to reduce in size by around 3%. Size Chart Here.

2022 is SBC Athletics 10th anniversary season; incentives for membership. See the table below.

We want to hear your stories. How does racing shape your life? Your perspective on the race? Is there an experience that stands out? We'll read every response, but nothing will be shared without your permission. Shot Stephanie an email stephs090386@gmail.com

It has been a while since we offered PEDAL Industries SBC kit bags. No minimum order number is required.  The pro bag is the newest bag offered by PEDAL Industries. You can also get your name added to it for customization. There is also now a "changing poncho" that is offered on the website.

December 13th Fleet Feet Springfield extends a 10% discount on electronics and a 15% discount on in-store products to SBC Athletics. So be sure you mark your calendars.

Look for the Classic Beer Mile on the regular. It will be coming up every 3rd Saturday of the month. Tell your beer-drinking/running friends. Also, look for new and better prizes! The information below is in "Upcoming."

Are you and a bunch of teammates headed to a big event? An Ultra, a big gravel race, triathlon, or volunteering for a trail workday? Wouldn't some SBC beer afterward be refreshing? Would you like to take along some SBC Brews to share? Contact Neil. He will hook you up.

Join SLACK. It is the best way to keep in touch with teammates and coordinate group activities.

SBC Bar tape is finally in and available again. If you ordered a set, you could pick it up at the front desk at SGB- $25 cash only.

If you would like a commemorative brick to celebrate an athletic milestone, get in touch with Neil. These are really cool and stand as a lasting reminder of your epic achievement.

Weekly Update 10/18/21

Celebrating athletic achievement that betters ourselves, our teammates, and our community.

The monthly Beer Mile is going stronger than ever. If you are wondering what exactly the beer mile is or have been hesitant about going let us tell you a little about it. SBCA's monthly beer mile consists of Springfield Brewing Company award-wining craft beer and running a quarter of a mile around SBC's The Cellar/ Springfield Brewing Company. Do that four times and whoever has the fastest time wins a 6-pack in both male and female categories. It is always a great time for both participants and spectators.

Celebrating athletic achievement that betters ourselves, our teammates, and our community.

As summer hands off to fall, cycling and triathlon seasons begin to wrap up and running events start making their way to the front. Trailfest at Two Rivers appears to have been a terrific success. We had several members wearing our colors for many miles through the hills and hollers of Stone County.

Weekly Update 9/27/2021

Celebrating athletic achievement that betters ourselves, our teammates, and our community.

The big news this week is Toby Dogwiler's absolutely fantastic win at Long Course Duathlon National Championships. Toby laid down some spectacular splits to win his division and finish 6th overall. This adds yet another National Championship trophy to the SBCA collection. Additionally, a couple of our Ultra Runners topped overall podiums this weekend. Gary Shaw wrote a pretty fantastic race report about his experience at the Bristow Backwoods Beer Mile and Games- Here. Former SBCA member turned Pro Triathlete Danielle Lewis came in ahead of Mirinda Carfrae to snag 3rd overall at IM70.3 Augusta.

THIS WEEK!- The one and only Tour Divide legend and all-around great guy, Hal Russell, has written a book - "Touch Both Lines." Hear all about the Book and how to order it. Ask Hal questions about endurance/ultra events, his life, and service. Pretty much whatever you want to ask a legend. 🙂 Book for sale here

Trailfest is coming up, and registration is open. This is always a great event for the trail runners, and a terrific precursor to the Dogwood Canyon Trail races a month later. The event will be at 2 Rivers in Highlandville. Details and registration can be found HERE

You may or may not be aware that Springfield has a NICA team in the Missouri Interscholastic Cycling League. The 3rd race in this season's series will be held this weekend at our own local Two Rivers Mountain Bike Park. They are currently seeking volunteers to fill a number of roles. Sign up Here. If you want to see the future of MTB and likely the future of cycling in the US, you'll see it here. The league runs a very professional event. Watching the sportsmanship and competition is very inspiring.

Continuing items of importance:

SBCA Segment Challenge (riding and running) will be starting Sept 1, and the segment will run for the length of the month. Each month will be the same time frame, and this challenge will run for a full year. Let us know what segments you would like to see in the challenge.
