Weekly Update 6/28/2021

Celebrating athletic achievement that betters ourselves, our teammates, and our community.

Over the weekend we had athletes doing big triathlons (IM 70.3 and OLY) and athletes running big miles and athletes cycling big multi-surface miles. The Green Goliath Triple IPA dropped and along with it, the Green Goliath Triple Surface Century. Gary Shaw managed a 4th overall at a 30 hour endurance event. He managed 109 miles in that time and ticked an 8th state in which he has completed a 100 mile run. Lofty goals yield lofty results if you're willing to put in the training.

Today (June 30th) is the last day to use the discount code SBC2021 for 20% off any registration at Tour De Rock.  This actually brings down the pace group entry to $120 which includes a special pace group jersey and all of the other benefit

If you're willing and a little bit bold, get an SBC Tattoo where it shows and get free beer. That's right- get a permanent SBC tattoo and show up at SBC with the tattoo visible and you'll get one free beer for each day you show it at the mothership.

Continuing items of importance;

Weekly Update 6/21/2021

Celebrating athletic achievement that betters ourselves, our teammates, and our community.

We had a pretty eventful Father's Day weekend. We saw the return of a local favorite this weekend with The Concrete Man Triathlon making a comeback under the Heartland Racing banner. A few of our athletes participated, and some others were getting their Tri on at IM Des Moines 70.3. We also saw a very well-attended new tradition with the Railcar Root Beer Juniors ride. The Juniors ride is an excellent family event. The next one will be July 17th. Watch "Upcoming" for more details.

The Greene Goliath Triple- Three surface Hundy is this Saturday, June 24th. This promises to be a great time. Gravel, pavement, and some sweet singletrack. Race it, or ride it easy. Starting and finishing at SBC.

Pay attention to July 19th and December 13th. On those two dates Fleet Feet Springfield is extending a 10% discount on electronics and a 15% discount on in-store products to SBC Athletics on those two dates.

Finish Line Lager is still on sale. Get some and beat the heat this summer. Buy a six-pack for your friends. Available on tap and in the can.

We still struggle with getting results reported. If you PR'd, finished something big, just crossed a milestone, met a goal, and especially if you podiumed, we all want to hear about it. You can email me at longjohnhershel@gmail.com or stephs090386@gmail.com. This helps to get the results reported in a timely manner.

Weekly Update 6/7/2021

Celebrating athletic achievement that betters ourselves, our teammates, and our community.

SBC Athletics extends congratulations to all the area cyclists who participated in the Garmin Unbound Gravel race (formerly DK200) this weekend. By all reports, conditions were as tough as ever. No doubt that many stories about this year's version will be shared over beers in the future.

Some sad news for the team; Masters Cyclist Peter Van Rhein passed away over the weekend.  A memorial mass will be held Friday, June 10th at 10:30 am at Immaculate Conception. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Sierra Club.

The first after-work century of 2021 will be held on June 18th, a week from this Friday. The usual drill. Start and finishing at SBC. This is a 100-mile ride with 50-60ish in the sunset and 40 in the moonlight. Bring lights and a positive group riding attitude. The moving average is usually 16-17mph. The ride will be faster in the daylight then slows up at night.

A sold-out Tour De Brew looks to have been as good as advertised. Not sure who won the collage contest, but the photos all looked like a great time was had by all.

The team Pactimo store is open for two more days! Make sure you order because this will be the last time the store is open for the year.  Link to Store
