Weekly Update 6/1/2020

Celebrating athletic achievements that better ourselves, our teammates, and our community.

OK gang, it's starting to feel like summer around here. Stuff is starting to happen again. We even have a race result this week! Stay safe as we get back to our outdoor activities.

A note about the SBC Bike Shop at the Fairbanks;

Bike shop update:  The new space is so much better than the original - we have a staging area for ready to buy bikes and cycling kit/gear for sale.  Another designated area to keep bikes that need work.  And a totally separate area for our Monday night mechanics to work on bikes, and safely keep tools, etc, etc.  There are some old building damp/wetness/basement issues but other than that - the move has been an enormous improvement.  Many thanks to everyone who helped - especially shop leader Jason Stratton who lead the effort.  Monday night mechanics' nights start in June.  Contact Jason Stratton if you are interested in attending - we're mindful of COVID-19 social distancing/numbers/occupancy issues so while we want folks to be engaged we also want to avoid 20 people showing up on the same night only to be sent home.   jason@blackriverimaging.com.  And then by mid-june - June 17, we are opening up a somewhat muted version of the shop to the public.  (One customer/family at a time, wearing masks only in the shop, etc, etc - but we will be open.)  Anyone interested in working Wednesday nights for the open to the public nights - please contact Neil so we can coordinate in similar ways as the Monday mechanics will be doing. neilchanter@stronglaw.com.  Many thanks.  https://www.facebook.com/events/744700862675638/ and https://www.facebook.com/events/562983207864628/

From Toby Dogwiler, organizer of the TT Series;

Starting Tuesday, June 2nd, the “Covid-19 Social Distancing TT Series” will become the "Tuesday Night is TT Night + Virtual TT". Join us at https://www.facebook.com/events/734965713906334/. The new format will include an in-person TT competition on Tuesday evening (alternating the same two courses, and maybe an occasional "guest" course). For those who prefer the "virtual" format, you can participate that way, too.  However, please note that the "virtual TT week" will run from Tuesday through Monday.

As we become the "Tuesday Night TT Series + Virtual TT" we will begin to post handicapped times and absolute time scoring for the series at the end of every week (now that we have the system figured out and built).  The in-person and virtual events will be scored separately (you can do one or both).  The series will continue through the summer and fall and scoring will be cumulative (with an allowance for a certain number of missed weeks).  More info about the scoring and handicapping will be forthcoming.

Please join us Tuesday evening as we kick-off the in-person TT series. We'll meet at the Republic Aquatic Center parking lot. Please be "wheels down" by 5:50 PM.  We will hold a very brief pre-ride meeting and then ride to the starting line.  The race will start at ~6:00 PM. Check out this link for a map and description of the course.  The competitive by friendly series is brought to you by SBC Athletics and is open to everyone of all experiences and abilities.  The series will continue through the summer and early fall with two scoring systems: absolute time and handicapped time.

And, remember, if you can’t make it Tuesday night you can still participate virtually any time from Tuesday through Monday.
